Knotly: Gift Wrap & Messages lets Shopify merchants offer gift wrap and a gift message in their online store's cart, check the gift message at checkout, and print gift message cards and packing slips without prices for their gift orders. It can also tag new gift orders and copy their gift details into the order note for your fulfilment, and show buyers their gift details on the Thank you and order status pages.
Knotly: Gift Wrap & Messages is operated by StoreFleet ("we", "us"), a trading name of Jose James, LLC, 131 Continental Dr, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713, USA. We are responsible for the data the app's server and our support service process, as described below. For any question or request about this policy or your data, email [email protected].
Your app data, such as the interface language, your gift wrap options, your gift message rules, your card designs, your card and packing slip settings and, on Pro, your per-item gift and gift option rule settings, is stored in your own Shopify store as app-owned metafields. The gift wrap options are also kept as a "Gift wrap" product in your store, with the images you upload stored by Shopify. None of this is copied to the app's server.
The app's server stores your shop domain, shop name, granted access scopes, install and uninstall dates and an encrypted access token, so it can keep your installation working. Your Pro subscription is charged through Shopify's billing; the server only records whether your shop has already used the Pro free trial, and reads your subscription from Shopify when it needs it.
On Pro, when you print gift message cards or packing slips, the server records the ID of each printed order, which document was printed and when, so the Gift orders page can show what was printed and print only the cards not printed yet. These records contain no customer names, addresses or messages.
When Shopify sends a privacy request about one of your customers, the server logs that the request arrived, with the customer and order IDs it names but without the customer's name, email or phone.
In your online store, the gift options your customers choose (whether the order is a gift, the gift wrap, the occasion, the gift message and whether prices should be hidden on the packing slip) are saved by Shopify on the cart and copied to the order as additional details. With Pro per-item gifts, each item's gift wrap, occasion and message are saved the same way on that item of the cart and the order. When the checkout rule is on, Shopify runs the app's checkout function on the cart to check the gift message against your rules; the function runs inside Shopify and sends nothing to the app's server.
To print gift message cards and packing slips, the app reads your recent orders (gift details, line items, fulfillment status) and the recipient's name, company and shipping address. The recipient's name and address are printed on the cards and packing slips.
On the app's Gift orders page, these orders are read inside your browser and the PDF and ZIP files are created in your browser and saved to your device. When you print from the Print menu of an order or of the Orders list in your Shopify admin, the app's server reads the orders you selected from Shopify and creates the PDF that the Print menu shows. It does this only for that one request: the order and customer data and the PDF are held in memory while the PDF is created and are not written to a database, a file or the server's logs. Order and customer data is not stored by the app and is not shared with anyone.
When a new order is placed, Shopify sends it to the app's server (the orders/create webhook). The app asks Shopify to send only the order's ID, its additional details and each item's title, variant, quantity and item details: no customer name, email, phone or address. When the order is a gift, the server reads your Order handoff settings, the order's note and tags from Shopify, adds your gift tag to the order and adds the gift wrap, occasion and gift message to the end of the order note, never replacing what is already there. Both are off until you turn them on in Settings › Order handoff. The order is held in memory only while this is done and is not written to a database, a file or the server's logs; the logs name only the shop and the order ID when the update fails.
The Gift summary block that you can add to your Thank you and order status pages reads the buyer's gift details from the order inside the buyer's browser and sends nothing to the app's server.
Pro gift insights (gift order rate, wrap revenue and occasions) are calculated in your browser from your recent orders and are not sent to or stored on the app's server.
The in-app support chat is run by our support service, StoreFleet Support Hub. When you use it, the app sends the service your messages, your shop domain and shop name, your Shopify plan, the app's granted scopes and install date, and the name, email address, language and role (owner, staff or collaborator) of the staff member who is chatting, as provided by Shopify. The support service stores the conversation, linked to your shop domain, so our team can answer you.
Each time the app is installed or uninstalled, and the first time you print a gift message card or packing slip, the app sends a notice to our support service, StoreFleet Support Hub, which we operate. The notice contains your shop domain and shop name, whether the shop is a development store, the shop owner's email address (or the shop's contact email when the owner's is empty) and the shop's primary language.
We use the email address and language only to send you service emails about the app: a welcome, setup help, tips, questions about your satisfaction and feedback, a request to review the app, and a short note after you uninstall it. Development stores are never emailed. You can opt out at any time with the unsubscribe link in any of these emails or by writing to [email protected].
The app does not sell any data. To answer support chat messages, the support service mirrors them, with your shop domain and shop name, to our support team's Slack workspace (Slack Technologies) and may use an AI model provider (Anthropic) to draft replies. Service emails are sent from our own mail server. Nothing else is shared with third parties.
Slack Technologies and Anthropic may process the data we share with them in countries other than yours, including the United States. This means support messages, shop details and the contact details used for service emails may leave the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Vietnam. Contact us at the address above if you want more information about these transfers.
The app handles Shopify's three mandatory privacy webhooks:
Your installation record, your Pro trial record, your printed marks, the privacy requests logged for your customers and your support conversations are kept while the app is installed. They are deleted when Shopify sends the shop erasure request after you uninstall, as described below. We keep only a record that your shop's erasure request arrived.
When you uninstall the app, Shopify revokes its access, the installation is marked as uninstalled and the stored access token is discarded. 48 hours later Shopify asks the app to erase your shop's data. The server then asks the support service to delete your shop's support conversations, deletes your Pro trial record and printed marks, deletes the privacy requests it logged for your customers and deletes your installation record. It keeps only a record that your shop's erasure request arrived. Copies of support messages already posted to Slack are not deleted automatically; ask us through the contact below to remove them.
Uninstalling does not delete the "Gift wrap" product, the gift details already saved on your orders, or the gift tags and order notes the app already added; they stay in your store, and you can delete the product in your Shopify admin. The app's settings contain no personal data about your customers; contact us if you want help removing anything the app left in your store.
Merchants and their staff can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about them, or object to service emails, by writing to [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to your data protection authority. Your customers should send privacy requests to your store; Shopify forwards them to the app as described above.
Questions about this policy or requests about your data can be sent to [email protected]. Once the app is listed, you can also use the support contact on the app's Shopify App Store listing.
